Nowadays engines will get more and more soiled internally than formerly. This can partly be explained by the increasingly strict environmental requirements. Fuels have been adapted and the car has been equipped with facilities to limit the burdening of the environment. In itself it is not a bad idea but it is also the reason that breakdowns will occur notwithstanding the fact that the required maintenance to the car has been carried out. These faults are spotted by sensitive control systems like the EOBD-system.
